If you enjoy stories about passionate winemakers, you are going to fall in love with Tenuta di Trinoro. Andrea Franchetti was an avid wine collector with a particular love for full-bodied, expressive Bordeaux. The encounter with the undisturbed beauty of Val d'Orcia, Tuscany, lit in him the desire to become a winemaker and he planted his first vines in 1991. Although the land was perceived as unfavourable for growing grapes, Andrea, against all expectations, created a world class Super-Tuscan from scratch.
Unlike many producers who took part in the Super-Tuscan phenomenon, Andrea worked alone and did not get any help from consultants. Constantly experimenting with micro-vinification and various maturation techniques, he developed his own approach to winemaking which is characterised by high planting, very low yields, and concentration of flavours. His wines express the characteristics of their vintage and terroir while showcasing the fullest potential of the varieties used.
Tenuta di Trinoro is the flagship of the estate. A vintage-specific blend, it is characterised by high planting, high thinning, very low yields, extreme ripeness, and concentration of flavor. It is the best insight to Andrea's approach to winemaking. Alongside Trinoro, Andrea has also produced single varietals reminiscent of Bordeaux's right banks: Palazzi, a 100% Merlot, and Campo di Camagi, a single vineyard Cabernet Franc. Made in tiny production, all wines have received critical acclaims since first released, and are pure expressions of their land.
Andrea's son, Benjamin Franchetti, will join us to host this event, which will be a rare opportunity to taste exquisite wines matched with a fantastic five course menu curated by our executive chefs.
